To make a sit down dinner for two hours interesting, it’s got to have something beyond food.
Lore as in folklore, is an art of storytelling through food, Over the past few months the Lore team has curated pop ups around India, Omnisense which is story of senses, Edible history of Goa , Virgo, Circle of Life, are just a few to name.
The theme for 31st of October as the date suggested Halloween, it’s a foregone conclusion and a tried and tested recipes of pumpkins and recipes looking like horror enactments normally graces the occasion.
To make it all the more interesting we wanted it to be interactive and convinced ourselves to create recipes which looked holistic and inspired by Cult classics of Horror Genre , Not to forget- keeping the philosophy of Locavore intact (atleast 90%) , the names of the movies wasn’t given out it was a play on the clues and wanted our guests to find their way out.
The TV 📺 plays with a girl dressed in white and subtle disturbances, A plate dressed with Anise sauce and concentric circles drawn out of reduced 🦞 shells, Out came VCR cassette with Roundnuts flavoured with Seafood, The clues are eminent. : THE RING ( an easy one )
The next act was an act of Blindfold, by now most of us would have guessed it, but what followed was small cages of mesh, holding Chicken feet which is slimy and yucky to feel, the end of it had a country chicken 🐓 mousse coated with coconuts, : BIRD BOX (another easy one)
The clues for this in on the description on the menu itself, Olive Veil; and what comes out to the table is olive leather over Cheese balloons which are filled with tomato 🍅 and local 🥬, it was a convincing one for us when we created nevertheless there was a bit of altercations, : THE NUN
Cult classics are a lot of fun; especially the enactment was of a particular scene in the movie which was much talked about ; this particular course was Coorg Mushrooms 🍄 smoked over Vetti ver (roots) and served with 13 year old Balsamic, and an eye 👁 of Whipped up cheese : THE EVIL DEAD
Witches are synonymous to Halloween but to give the clues in accordance to a witchcraft and woods to make them decipher is a long shot, Pumpkin Broth infused with local herbs 🌿 and chilli potion 🧪 dropped in with a disappearing sachet, : THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
Redrum (Red -rum) which reads murder in reverse, the iconic scene in the movie, has been on the table as a part of the decor all this while, and we pulled it off to flambé the flaming sorbet of JACKfruit wine ( Jack Nicholson starter ) wine : SHINING
666 - Six layers of Rice Kari(quail and it’s egg) condiments, Six raven feathers around an egg serve bowl, the offspring Cult classic is what we were referring to: OMEN
